There are moments that no driver wants to experience. One of these is definitely finding the fuel flap stuck shut at the petrol station. Anyone who hasn’t experienced this themselves will find it hard to believe that it's not that unusual for the fuel flap mechanism to jam. It’s good to know where the emergency release is – if your car has one.
Such a ‘lockdown’ can be caused, for example, by a warped or damaged fuel tank cover, which prevents the locking pin from the servomotor from engaging in the cover.
However, something may also be broken in the mechanism, or moisture and/or corrosion may have damaged electronic components. Repairing this inexpensive component is neither economical nor sensible. It is better to have the actuator replaced.
